The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre was established in 1964 to return orphaned "apes back to the wild. The centre was being administered by the wildlife section of the Forestry Department which in 1988 was upgraded as a department under the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Development. This centre attracts tourists and researchers alike, by giving them the opportunity to watch the orang utan up close in their natural habitat. While Kinabatangan, Sabah’s longest river provides an excellent introduction to the wonders of the rainforest. Seven lodges along the river welcome visitors, with boat cruises and walking trails affording great opportunities for exploration. Wild Orang-utans, Proboscis Monkeys and Long-tailed Macaques are just three of the monkey species to be found along the Menanggul River (a tributary of the Kinabatangan). The whole river is a wildlife extravaganza, with crocodiles basking in the shoals, and an exotic array of birdlife gliding overhead.
Day 1
08.00 am
Pick up from hotel in Sandakan or meet upon arrival at the Sandakan Airport (preferably on MH2042 ETA 0810hrs). Drive for approximately 30 minutes to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center. Proceed to the free roaming area feeding platform. 1000 hrs feeding of Orang Utans. At this center, observe man’s closest relative the Orang Utan being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat and experience a walk in the Tropical Lowland Dipterocarp Forest of Borneo.

After meet the Orang Utan, transfer to Meeting point at Medan Selera Coffee Shop, Kota Kinabatangan. Take about 1 hours drive
1.30 pm
Meet and great by our Representative and transfer to the lodge located at the lower kinabatangan river sanctuary
3.00 pm
Arrive at the lodge. Welcome drinks and orientation
4.00 pm
Back to lodge, freshen up & dinner.
Evening river cruise to sight wildlife along the Kinabatangan
6.00 pm
Back to lodge, freshen up & dinner
8.00 pm
Night trekking in the wilderness of the jungle to spot nocturnal animals
