Monsopiad Cultural Village is situated by the banks of the banks of the Penampang River among Shady trees and padi fields in the village of Kuai, name of “Monsopiad’, the best and fearsome native warror of the kadazans. It’sopened in the memory of the great and legendary Kadazan Warrior Monsopiad. Todays visitor can visit the Monsopiad Cultural Village, built on the area where Monsopiad used to live. View the human skulls that Monsopiad have collected, visit the various show houses, learn about the away of life of Kadazan people or sample of fiery rice wine “Tapai” while listening to the tales of the headhunting era.
From your hotel, we will drive for 20 minutes to the Monsopiad Cultural Village. You will be greeted with a welcome drink followed by a visit to the various traditional farmhouses. The farmhouses depict the lifestyle of the KadazanDusuns and there are display of traditional tools and basket, weaving equipments, and musical instruments in these houses. At the “House of Skulls”, there are 42 skulls collected by the headhunter warrior Monsopiad. These are skulls of the enemies hunted by Monsopiad many centuries ago. The house unveiled the spiritual belief and culture of the KadazanDusuns. Finally, a cultural dance performance is the finale of this cultural exchange.
